For more than two millennia, the Tuaregs have exploited the trans-Saharan caravan trade linking the major cities located south of the Sahara via five desert trade routes leading to the northern coast of Africa (Mediterranean).
The prophylaxis of carnelian is useful in a particularly hostile environment.
